PRESIDENT'S PAGE

Greetings,

Welcome to the local website of the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded on Christian principles and we continue to keep God first in all that we do. The Gainesville Alumnae Chapter was chartered over 25 years ago by 40 dynamic women with the desire to bring National programming objectives to the local community. The Gainesville Alumnae Chapter provides an array of public service through Education, Physical and Mental Health, Economic Development, International Awareness and Involvement and Political Awareness and Involvement.

Our educational public services include a Book Tea and work with both young men through our EMBODI and young middle school aged young girls in our Dr. Betty Shabazz “Delta Academy”. We are proud of our collaboration with the University of Florida’s Upward Bound program in which workshops are conducted for area youth. We are proud to provide scholarships each year to four deserving high school students. Programming in Physical and Mental Health hi-lites events with The American Cancer Society in the annual “Relay for Life” and The Hope Lodge annual dinner with the residents. We continue to reach out and provide public service through Economic development by providing information sessions on entrepreneurial workshops in and around the community. International Awareness and Involvement programming includes support to Haiti through collaboration with the University of Florida’s medical student association, our support of BASE and our annual day of service held in March of each year. Political Awareness and Involvement programming includes Delta Days at local government, annual MLK march, voter registration awareness and volunteering at the polls.

As we enter our new sororal year, a year in which our beloved sisterhood turns 99 we are very excited. We will continue the path established by our Founders and I along with the over 55 Delta’s who call Gainesville Alumnae home will work to bring their vision to the Gainesville community. I am honored to lead the local delegation of Delta Women in the Gainesville Alumnae Chapter.

It is my hope that our programming will continue to impact our local community daily. If you are a new Soror in the area, we welcome you with that good ole’ Delta Spirit and I encourage you to contact us. If you are a community based individual or organization and believe that we, as a chapter, can provide assistance to you, please contact us. We hope that our work in the community is a reflection of our commitment to scholarship and service. We know, that we would not be able to provide the programming if it were not for our members, family, friends, partnerships and collaborations; and for that I thank you in advance.  I hope that you enjoy viewing our site and would love to hear from you.

Peace and Blessings,

Wendy Fletcher-Shannon
